Recycling of plastic waste

Polymer recycling is useful in many ways. If we have less waste on the planet, we make a larger living space, spend less on using more resources to make plastic, and use less energy to make new plastics saving the economy some money.

There are six different types of plastic resins that are commonly used for packing household products. Identification codes can be found at the bottom of most plastic containers.

Recycling helps earth by reducing waste and creating useful materials. It provides opportunities to reduce the use of oil, carbon dioxide emissions and the quantities of waste requiring disposal.

Recycling of oil waste

Recycle and reuse of used engine oil that is meant to be disposed of can provide significant environmental benefits.
Recycled motor oil can be recycled in new oil, processed in fuel oils and used as raw materials for the petroleum industry.

Used oils such as engine grease, hydraulic fluids, gear oils used in automobiles, bicycles, or lawn mowers can contaminate
the environment if they are not properly recycled or disposed of.
Used oils must be properly managed by local waste management authorities or car repair shops
to prevent contamination of the environment.
Used oil filters also pose similar waste concerns. They can be safely recycled and disposed of If discharged properly.

Some of the many reasons for reuse and recycling of used oils include :

• Recycling of used oils prevents them from soil and water pollution
• Engine oil does not expire, but it gets contaminated so recycling it provides a valuable source.
• To produce a gallon of adjusted primary stock requires less energy than a basic stock of crude oil.
• One gallon of used motor oil provides the same amount of 2.5 liters of lubricating oil as 42 gallons of crude oil.

Base Oil

Base oil is the name given to lubricants initially produced from the refining of crude oil (essential mineral oils) or through chemical synthesis (synthetic base oil). Base oil is usually defined as oil with a boiling point range ranging from 550 to 1050 Fahrenheit; it consists of hydrocarbons containing 18 to 40 carbon atoms.

Base oils are used to manufacture products, including lubricating greases, motor oil and metal processing liquids. Different products require different combinations and properties in the oil. One of the most important factors is the fluid viscosity at different temperatures. It is determined whether crude oil is suitable to be produced in base oil by concentrating the basic oil molecules, and also depends on how easy is to extract these oils.

Base oil is produced by refining crude oil. This means that the crude oil is heated so that many distillates can be separated from each other. During the heating process, light and heavy hydrocarbons are separated – the light type can be used to make gasoline and other fuels, while the heavy type is suitable for bitumen and essential oils. (1)

There is a lot of crude oil that is used to produce base oils around the world. Paraffin crude oil is the most common type, although there is also naphtha crude oil which produces better solubility products with very good properties at low temperatures. Very pure base oils, which are appropriate when quality requirements are particularly stringent can be extracted using hydrogenation technology, in which sulfur and aromatics are removed using hydrogen under high pressure. Chemicals – additives – are added to essential oils in order to meet the quality requirements of finished products in terms of friction and cleaning properties, for example.
Certain types of motor oils contain more than twenty percent of additives. (3)

Waste of Tires

Waste tires or scrap tires, also known as End-of-Life Tires (ELT), are used as unsafe rubber tires for general traffic because of scraping (“rolling tires”).

Tire waste can be recycled into tires so that the other part can be converted into thermal fuel for the production of fuel derived from tires or thermal energy.

Asphalt

Asphalt is a common link used in road construction. It is mainly obtained as residual products in oil refineries after higher crushing such as gas, gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc. The Indian Standard Institute defines asphalte as a non-crystalline soil with a dark or dusky structure or a sticky substance with adhesive properties derived from crude oil either by natural processes or by refining processes.

Gas-Oil

There are many different fuels available at present from diesel to kerosene …
There are two main types of diesel called gas-oil and diesel road.
They are almost the same except that the colored dye is added to the gas oil for industrial purposes.

A mixture of heavy gas oil that may contain very small amounts of filtered chemical residues but contains a low viscosity of up to 12 cl. and therefore should not be heated for use in internal combustion engines.

Fuel Oil

Fuel oil is a part obtained from petroleum distillation, either as a distillate or a residue in an oil filter.

Generally, fuel oil is any liquid petroleum product that is burned in an oven or boiler to generate heat or use it in an engine to generate energy, except for oils that have a flash point approaching +40 ° C or oils burned in cotton burners or wool wicks. In this sense, diesel is a type of fuel oil. Fuel oil is made from long hydrocarbon chains, especially Alkanes, Cyclo Alkanes and aromatics. The term fuel oil is also used more specifically to refer only to commercially heavier fuels that can be obtained from crude oil; they are heavier than benzene and naphtha.

Fuel oil in the United States is classified into six categories, according to temperature, boiling and purpose. Boiling point, ranging from 175 to 600 degrees Celsius, the length of the carbon chain, from 20 to 70 atoms, of fuel increases with the number.
The viscosity of the fuel oil is also increasing according to fuel number and the heavy oil must be heated to get the flow. The price usually falls as the fuel number increases.

Fuel oil N. 1, fuel oil N.2 (heating oil) and fuel oil N.3 are referred to as distilled fuel oils, diesel oils, light fuel oil, gas oil or distillates only. For example, fuel oil N.2, distillates N.2 and diesel oil N.2 are almost the same. Diesel differs for it contains a limited diaphragm that describes the quality of the ignition. Distilled oil is distilled from crude oil.
